National Adoption Day - November 15, 2008
National Adoption Day started in 2000 and was the creation of the Alliance for Children's Rights, with the support of the Freddie Mac Foundation as well as the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. In 2000, National Adoption Day sponsors worked with local foster care agencies, child advocates, courts and law firms to complete the adoptions of hundreds of children from the Foster Care system in nine jurisdictions nationwide. As years pass, more and more jurisdictions become involved in this grassroots movement which promotes the adoption of children from Foster Care.National Adoption Day has many corporate supporters who help make the dream of creating forever families for children a reality. Today, National Adoption Day is celebrated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico with more than 300 events held through out the country to finalize thousands of adoptions.
Since November 2000, there have been more than 20,000 children who have been adopted from foster care on National Adoption Day.
If you are participating in the National Adoption Day festivities in your area, take some time to share your story with others as a way to promote adoption from foster care as an option for families all across the country.
